Just like with any other candle, carbon builds up on the wick during the burning process and it could release soot (black smoke); this is completely normal! The good news is that you can prevent and eliminate the soot by trimming your wick 1/8” before every single new burn. If you re-light a wick that has this carbon build up it will result in a poor performing candle.
